Creed Review

Written By: Travis Lantto

CREED was a movie that I was highly excited for since I loved the character Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers in the original Rocky movies.  He was so conceded and thought he was the best boxer in the world until Rocky Balboa, The Italian Stallion rocked his world and eventually won the championship from him.  Sorry for the spoilers but these are movies that came out in the 70s and 80s and 90s.

The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2 Review

Written By:  Aaron Meyer

Welcome to the 76th Annual Hunger Games!  It's all out war between the Districts and the Capital.  Only one will prevail and Katniss Everdeen becomes the leader we always expected her to be... well nearly.   Taking back the Capital has been a 2 part affair.  While it stays close to home when comparing the source material, the story itself as a standalone entry in the film series tends to be the weakest.  Our spoiler free review is below.

The Hype is Strong With This One

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Star Wars The Force Awakens has broken advanced ticket sales records. Not only that but Disney expects it to be their top grossing movie of all time.  While most movies are lucky now-a-days to break $50 million at the box office.  The Force Awakens has broken that already and hasn't even screened for audiences yet.  By the time it releases on December 17th records held by movies such as The Hobbit or Jurassic World will be merely a blip on the radar.

How does your local theater get their movies?

You've waited for it and it's finally here. That movie you've been waiting months to see after viewing trailers online and hearing people you know talk about it.  However have you ever wondered about what theaters have to go through just to show you that next blockbuster hit? The answers may actually explain a lot, and give you an understanding why it just cost you nearly $18 for a bucket of Popcorn and a Large Soda.

Netflix Nugget - Week of November 16th

WINTER ON FIRE
Director:  Evgeny Afineevsky
Stars: Bishop Agapit, Serhill Averchenko, Kristina Berdinskikh
IMDB.com Page

Chronicling events that unfolded over 93 days in 2013 and 2014, this documentary witnesses the formation of a new civil rights movement in Ukraine. What started as peaceful student demonstrations supporting European integration morphed into a full-fledged violent revolution calling for the resignation of the nation's president. The film captures the remarkable mobilization of nearly a million citizens from across the country protesting the corrupt political regime that utilized extreme force against its own people to suppress their demands and freedom of expression.

Spectre Review

Daniel Craig's fourth and what seems to be final trip into the tuxedo worn by 007 gives a good performance as James Bond however the over the top action and beautiful cinematography doesn't hold up, due to the lack of a strong story.

I'll never forget seeing Casino Royale in theaters with Daniel Craig becoming bond for the first time.  A new take on the Bond character who wasn't tied nearly as much to the gadgets he had used in the past or nearly as much campy-ness to some of the action sequences.  Daniel Craig has been my favorite Bond even if the stories being told haven't always been the greatest.  Spectre doesn't change much to the formula that has worked over the last few movies however, this movie does try to at least hint at more of a deeper connection between the last four movies.  The only problem is that the connection turns out to be as wide as the ocean but as deep as a fish bowl.

Promethus 2 will reveal who created the Aliens

Ridley Scott revealed a few plot details in an interview with IGN that Prometheus 2 which is now known as Alien: Paradise Lost, will reveal who created the Aliens.  John Legend will be a co-writer on the film who just recently finished working with Scott on the James Bond Films, Skyfall and Spectre.
Prometheus 2 will start getting shot in February and I’ve already begun now so I know what the script is. Then there will be another one after that and then maybe we’ll back into Alien 1, as to why? Who would make such a dreadful thing?
Scott and his stars have been talking about doing a sequel for quite some time.  After the first movie left off with Elizabeth Shaw leaving in search of Engineers while a Xenomorph was hatching.  So that leaves us asking, why would someone want to make those damn things?  Were they ment to serve as a military weapon?  Apparently we will find out soon.

Netflix Nugget - Week of November 9th

EXAM
Director: Stuart Hazeldine
Writers: Stuart Hazeldine, Simon Garrity
Stars: Adar Beck, Gemma Chan, Nathalie Cox
IMDB.com Page

Eight talented candidates have reached the final stage of selection to join the ranks of a mysterious and powerful corporation. Entering a windowless room, an Invigilator gives them eighty minutes to answer one simple question. He outlines three rules they must obey or be disqualified: don't talk to him or the armed guard by the door, don't spoil their papers and don't leave the room. He starts the clock and leaves.

The candidates turn over their question papers, only to find they're completely blank. After the initial confusion has subsided, one frustrated candidate writes 'I believe I deserve...,' and is promptly ejected for spoiling. The remaining candidates soon figure out they're permitted to talk to each other, and they agree to cooperate in order to figure out the question: then they can compete to answer it. At first they suspect the question may be hidden in their papers like a security marker in a credit card, and they figure out ways to change their environment to expose the hidden words. But light, liquids and other plans all come to naught. Soon enough, the candidates begin to uncover each others background, prejudices and hidden agendas. Tensions rise as the clock steadily descends towards zero, and each candidate must decide how far they are willing to go to secure the ultimate job . . .

Movie Recommendation: Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs

Director:  Danny Boyle
Writers:  Aaron Sorkin, Walter Isaacson
Stars: Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogan
IMDB.com Page

This one is far better than the Ashton Kutcher version from 2 years ago. Unlike the earlier version this film mostly shows the relationship between the people he worked with and his daughter than all the technology advancements he made in his time at apple. It's a well paced movie and shows how much of a dick he was and couldn't take no for an answer. Michael Fassbender was fantastic as Steve Jobs and Kate Winslet and Seth Rogan really added to it all. I thought it was fantastic. This isn't a new release but I figured we all have to start somewhere.

Netflix Nugget - Week of November 2nd

CIRCLE
Directors: ,
Stars: , ,

In a massive, mysterious chamber, fifty strangers awaken to find themselves trapped with no memory of how they got there. Organized in an inward-facing circle and unable to move, they quickly learn that every two minutes, one of them must die... executed by a strange device in the center of the room. At first, the attacks seem random, but soon the strangers realize that they, as a group, have the power to decide who will be the next to be killed. A vote. A chance to control the machine. But how can they choose who deserves to die? And what happens when there's only one person left? Circle is a film about people, how they value one another, and what they do under the worst possible circumstances. A film about what makes us human - who we are, what we believe, and ultimately, the lengths we will go to save ourselves.
