Netflix Plans to Double Original Programming in 2016
Good news binge-watchers! Netflix announced yesterday that they will be doubling down on the amount of original content that will be available on their popular streaming service. Slashfilm.com is reporting that at the UBS Media Conference, Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos announced that there will be a total of 31 scripted shows in 2016. It not only includes new shows but also 10 feature films, 10 stand up specials, and 12 documentaries.
We will also see the return of popular shows, such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Sense8, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Daredevil among many more. However these renewals and new additions will come at a cost to Netflix subscribers via choices of what to watch. Netflix decided earlier this year not to renew it's contract with Epix, who went over to Hulu as part of their service. Afterwards, Sarandos stated on his blog, "Our goal is to provide great movies and TV series for all tastes, that are only available on Netflix." - Which is great but no one can argue however that over the last few months that Netflix has been slipping with the diversity of content. It's easy to find Independent films, however all of these contracts that Netflix seems to be shedding off, one can admit it's been harder to find more and more mainstream movies nowadays. There is almost too much TV on Netflix and not enough, well, "Flix"...
